Today is National Doughnut Day! The day was created in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers. Both Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme will be giving away free donuts today to celebrate. Both chains have taken to Facebook to promote the event. While Krispy Kreme is giving away one donut per customer regardless of purchase, Dunkin’ Donuts doughnuts are free with the purchase of a beverage.
