Today is a day for us to remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives so that we could be free. It’s a sacred day to all war veterans.

Memorial Day is more than just a day off from work, barbecues, beach sand and the unofficial start of Summer.

Do our children, grandchildren, the general public and non-veterans really know the importance of today? The day honoring our fellow Americans killed in war? If not, then it is our job to remind each other.

In the words from VFW National Commander Tradewell, “We as a nation take for granted the freedoms all Americans enjoy. Those freedoms were paid for with the lives of others few of us actually knew. That’s why they are all collectively remembered on one special day. They came from all walks of life and regions of the country. But they all had one thing in common—love of and loyalty to country.”

It’s up to you and me to preserve their memory, their service and sacrifice in the memories of future generations.
