Tuesday, June 19th is the 153rd anniversary of the Emancipation of the US’ last group of enslaved people, which took place June 19th, 1865 in Texas, some 2 1/2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. Known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day, A huge celebration is planned here in Philadelphia to take place this weekend, June 22nd and 23rd.
