Even better? As a collective, these graduates were offered a whopping $5.5 million dollars in grants and scholarships to attend college this fall.
President Obama Names Stonewall A National Monument, First Ever In LGBT History
On Friday, President Barack Obama named the very first national monument to gay rights, honoring the Stonewall riots in New York that took place almost fifty years ago in 1969. According the Associated Press, the Stonewall National Monument will be in Christopher Park, which is right across from the iconic Stonewall Inn tavern.
“I believe our national parks should reflect the full story of our country: the richness and diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us,” Obama said in a video announcing the monument. “That we are stronger together, that out of many, we are one.”
This naming of this monument came almost two weeks after the bombing of the Pulse, an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, that killed 49 people.
