The Education Department received some good news yesterday from its 2012 stats! The high school graduation rate in the US reached a record 80% in the 2011-2012 school year. The 80% is up from 79% in the 2010-2011 report.

Greater awareness of the dropout problem and efforts by districts, states and the federal government to include graduation rates in accountability measures, all seem to be the reason for this kind of growth.

With this type of progress, researchers are already claiming that the national graduation rate will be to 90% by 2020!
