If you have been following politics or even the news, you’ve heard that the Government has shutdown for the first time since 1997. But how does this affect Pennsylvanians and anyone living in the Tri-State area? How does it affect tourism in the city of Philadelphia?
First off, all National Parks in the state of Pennsylvania will likely be closed. Thousands of federal workers who work at these parks will be sent home without pay. This includes Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA. There are around 71,000 federal employees in Pennsylvania that will see there jobs furloughed, some with pay.
Fortunately, mail will be delivered on time throughout the state. You will still have to pay taxes.
Although most State Governments can handle a national shutdown for a short period of time, a long term shutdown could see drastic cuts to law enforcement public safety, and education.
