The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History wants the hoodie Travyon Martin wore when he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman on February 26 last year. The museum director says that the blood-stained hoodie is such a symbol of race relations in the country. He says he wants to put it on display at the museum in an exhibit on race. The hoodie is currently being held as evidence in the Justice Department’s civil rights investigation.

The Reverend Al Sharpton says he also wants to see the jumper ‘preserved’ and would like to see the hoodie reside one day at the National Museum of African American History and Culture now under construction on the Mall and expected to open in 2015.
