Today we say goodbye to an awesome man of God, Rev. William H. Gray III, also known as congressman Bill Gray.

Succeeding his father as pastor of Bright Hope Baptist Church in 1972, he continued in that position until 2007. In addition, Gray served in Congress 1979 to 1991. He made history by becoming the first African-American chair of the House Budget Committee and the first to serve as majority whip.

Rev. Gray’s funeral will be held to day at Bright Hope Baptist Church at 11 a.m., located at 12th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue
Philadelphia, in North Philadelphia. He died on July 1st of natural causes while in London for the Wimbledon tennis tournament. He was 71.

He is survived by his mother, his wife and three sons.
