Beyonce’s Loss Is Gospel Music’s Gain

Headlines were made this past March when it was confirmed that Mathew Knowles, Beyonce’s father, would no longer be managing her. In addition to managing Beyonce’s previous girl group Destiny’s Child, Knowles was also at the helm as she shifted to a solo singing career.

Knowles has been often credited for making the moves behind the scenes that propelled Beyonce into superstardom, so making a move of this magnitude by separating from her father professionally was seemed as a surprise to some. But others saw it coming.

Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z has a very successful management company Roc Nation, and her sister Solange, who was also previously repped by Mathew Knowles’ Music World, moved under Jay-Z’s umbrella. In addition, there was reported tension between Beyonce and Knowles after he fathered another child while still married to Beyonce and Solange’s mother Tina Knowles.

Despite all of the drama surrounding Beyonce’s departure from Music World, Mathew Knowles has continued oversee the careers of several successful and noteworthy Gospel artists. The Music World Gospel roster consists of Trin-i-tee 5:7, Brian Courtney Wilson, Juanita Bynum, Micah Stampley, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Pastor Rudy. Plus, Trin-i-tee 5:7’s latest album “Angel & Chanelle” debuted this month at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel charts.

Beyonce’s album “4” is her first project without the guidance of Mathew Knowles, and it was released today (June 28th). The reviews have been mixed, and it’s not expected to sell as many copies as her previous three solo albums.

Only time will tell if Beyonce made the right move by dropping her father as her manager and putting her career in her husband’s hands. But in the meantime, Mathew Knowles seems to be doing just fine by focusing on Gospel.
