As most of you know, the world lost a pilar of black music and culture this week, Don Cornelius. A man made legendary by simply choosing to live a dream.

One of his most beloved sayings was his closing tag line ” YOU CAN BET YA LAST MONEY, IT’S GONNA BE A STONE GAS HONEY”

Being an 80’s baby, I was lost to the meaning of this line, but was faithful to say it simultaneously every Saturday. It meant just as much as the soul train line to me….lol.

Now all grown up, I appreciate him even more and have a desire to know what his faithful statement really meant. So i had to ask, (as many of you wonder but never had the guts to ask) What is a “stone gas” and where does this expression come from?

Well after much research I found out It’s just a combination of two slang words — “stone” meaning “very,

absolute” and “gas” meaning “a pleasure, a good thing.”. So my conclusion is, it was a guaranteed good time!

So what the moral of this article?…Make sure you know the meanings of what you and your children are repeating……..Be blessed yall!
