CLOSE

Okay sistas, get ready to make more closet space and my brothers I suggest you start looking for another space to call your closet. Why? Because the Macy’s Herald Square store in New York is planning to create the world’s largest women’s shoe department.

The idea is part of a huge $400 million redesigning project that will also include new luxury retailers, a brew pub and a sit-down restaurant with views of the Empire State Building.

The renovations will add 100,000 square feet of new retail space by converting stock rooms and offices and extending the mezzanine level in the store’s Broadway building.

A new “hall of luxury brands” will feature handbags and shoes in high-end two- and three-level shops, including the Louis Vuitton boutique.

The second floor will be “dominated” by what the store is calling the world’s largest women’s shoe department. It will in clued 39,000 feet of space with “an unequalled assortment of fashion and luxury footwear”. There will be as many as 300,000 pairs of shoes on any given day.

The store will also have interactive store directories, a “shoe locator system,” and a mobile app.

The remodeling is scheduled to start in the spring.
