Sixers to Open 2026-27 Season Against New York Knicks
The Philadelphia 76ers will open the 2026-27 NBA regular season on the national stage, facing the defending champion New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The 7 p.m. ET matchup will feature the Knicks raising their championship banner while the revamped Sixers make their regular-season debut with newly acquired stars LeBron James and Jaylen Brown.
The matchup adds another layer to an already heated Eastern Conference rivalry. New York swept Philadelphia 4-0 in last season’s Eastern Conference semifinals, making the season opener an immediate opportunity for the Sixers to respond.
For Philadelphia, the game will mark James’ first regular-season appearance in a Sixers uniform. The 41-year-old superstar signed a two-year, $8 million deal with Philadelphia in July, joining a roster that also includes Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Maxey
The Knicks-Sixers game is part of a three-game Opening Night schedule. Boston will visit Detroit at 3 p.m. ET, followed by Philadelphia-New York, while the Oklahoma City Thunder will visit the San Antonio Spurs at 9:30 p.m. ET in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference finals.
The NBA also announced a highly anticipated Christmas Day matchup featuring James and the Sixers visiting his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers. The full 2026-27 schedule is expected to be released Thursday.
