Still From 'Coming To America'

All the tweet from Eddie Murphy, posted Wednesday night, said was,“Coming to America sequel?” and the “Twitterverse” went nuts!  No wonder! The 1988 hit movie “Coming To America” is one of America’s all time favorite movies and can be seen somewhere on TV nearly every weekend! It also grossed over $288 million worldwide! The story of Prince Akeem, played by Eddie, and his best friend/servant Semmi (Arsenio Hall) coming from the fictional African country of Zamunda to Queens, New York to find his queen, is family friendly and full of laughs with great characters. It would seem to be a natural for a follow-up! One wonders why it’s taken so long!

Well, confirmation has come from Eddie’s camp that he is indeed in the early planning stages of a sequel, still just outlining a plot. It’s not known which original cast members (Sames Earl Jones, Shari Headley, Vanessa Bell Calloway, etc.) would return, but it would seem that Arsenio Hall would be pretty certain. I imagine that after nearly 30 years (yes, it’s been that long!) Prince Akeem would have become King of Zamunda, with a couple of princes and princesses of his own. Lots of work needs to be done, so “Coming to America 2” is probably at least 2 to 3 years away, if it actually happens at all. What do you think? Would you want to see it or do you think it would be best to just leave the classic alone? Incidentally, TMZ reports that both the tweet and Eddie Murphy’s account have since been deleted! Hmmmm..
