Madonna took the stage at the Billboard Music Awards, dressed as Willy Wonka’s mistress, to tribute our beloved Prince.
Nope!
The “Like A Virgin” singer appeared on a glittery purple throne, starting her performance with a cover of Sinead O’Connor’s hit, “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
Like, we know Prince wrote that song, but is that really how you want to open a Prince tribute? I mean he was music royalty, our eccentric carefree brother, the purple one, the vibrant one, and the tribute to his musical catalog opens with a lackluster, low energy song? And the struggle vocals?

The Internet erupted with shade, including an epic side eye from BET on Twitter:
And they weren’t the only ones disappointed:
Yikes!
Madonna appears blind to the bullish*t, writing on IG, “Anyone who wants to do a tribute to Prince is welcome to. Whatever your age, gender, or skin color!”
Okay then.
