Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice performs “Amazing Grace” to benefit Wounded Warriors
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice isn’t in the news much these days after leaving office, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been busy! Ms. Rice, the first African American and also the first woman appointed to that office, is also an avid golfer and a classically trained pianist. A couple of years ago she toured with Aretha Franklin doing concerts, with a stop here in Philadelphia. She’s also competed in a number of high level golf tournaments.

Now, after President Obama recently broke into it during the funeral for slain Charleston, SC minister and State Senator Clementa Pinckney, Former Secretary Rice has also recorded “Amazing Grace,” accompanied by Grammy nominated violinist Jenny Oaks Baker. Their version of the 236 year old hymn, written by John Newton, a former slave ship captain, will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, helping wounded and disabled veterans of America’s wars. The video, as seen here, was released July 4th on YouTube and is available on i-Tunes.
Secretary Rice said on her Facebook page, “Amazing Grace has always held a special place in my heart. It seemed only appropriate to release the video in conjunction with the 4th of July weekend as we recognize the blessings we have in this country and the sacrifices of our servicemen and women for our freedom.”
