President Barack Obama Appoints Task Force To Bridge Gap Between Officers and Citizens!
Yesterday President Barack Obama met with civil rights leaders and the heads of law enforcement agencies in an effort to find ways to bridge the gap between police officers and the citizens they serve. President Obama wants funding for more training for local law enforcement agents as well as body worn cameras by officers. President Obama appointed a task force with the charge of making specific recommendations and the implementation of those recommendations. All of this comes after the unrest following a grand jury’s decision to not to charge former police officer Darren Wilson with anything in the shooting death of unarmed Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.
Proposal for Renovated and New Bus Shelters
Mayor Michael Nutter and his administration are hoping to get the full go ahead from city council regarding the renovation of 300 bus shelters as well as the building of 300 new bus shelters by a private firm. The city and the firm would share the advertising revenue, which is estimated to bring in $100 million for the city over the 20-year life of the deal. However, the only thing that needs to be ironed out is the guidelines for the type of advertisements that will be on the bus shelters.
