Actress Cicely Tyson will receive an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts degree from the American Film Insitute, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The actress, who won a Tony Award last year for her work on the Broadway stage in the play The Trip to Bountiful will be honored for her “contribution of distinction to the art of the moving image.”
Tyson is a former member of the AFI Board of Trustees and an alumni of the AFI Directing Workshop for women. She’ll receive the award on June 11.
