The 45th NAACP Image Awards Nominations are in and the biopic, “The Butler,” by Philly’s own Director Lee Daniels picked up eight NAACP Image Awards movie nominations including: Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Directing for Daniels.
Actor Forest Whitaker was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture, Oprah Winfrey was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and Cuba Gooding Jr., and Terrence Howard all received nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category.
“The Butler” will face competition from “12 Years a Slave,” “Fruitvale Station,”“Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” and “The Best Man Holiday” for Outstanding Motion Picture.
In the TV categories “House of Lies,” “Real Husbands of Hollywood”, “The Game”, and “The Soul Man” are up for the Outstanding TV Comedy Series. “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” are up for Outstanding TV Drama Series category.
Don Cheadle (House of Lies), Kevin Hart (Real Husbands of Hollywood), LL Cool J (NCIS: Los Angeles) and Kerry Washington (Scandal) all got TV acting nods as well.
In the music category Bruno Mars, Charlie Wilson, John Legend, Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke are all up for Outstanding Male Artist. Beyonce, India.Arie, Janelle Monae, Ledisi and Mary J Blige are up for Outstanding Female Artist.
And up for Outstanding Album are Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, John Legend, Charlie Wilson and Janelle Monae.
The non-televised categories will take place Friday, February 21. Then on Saturday, February 22 at 9 PM, the LIVE two-hour star-studded event will be telecasts on TVOne.
