On Monday, Mayor Michael Nutter and State Attorney General Kathleen Kane joined a campaign aimed at smartphone manufacturers to design and install “kill switches” to disable permanently if lost or stolen.
Nutter described smartphone theft as epidemic and that smartphone thefts were up slightly from January through September with a total of 3,587, according to police.
Kane said that a study by AAA Mid-Atlantic named Philly as leading the pack to the nation’s smartphone loss and theft.
