Gospel Music has come a long way!
The pioneers of Gospel had to endure not even being recognized and if you made it on the radio it was on somebody’s AM dial! As I sat back and thought about how culture, times, people and the acknowledgement (at the least) that singing about Jesus is not so bad after all is upon us… I say wow!
The BET Awards are upon us June 30, 2013 in Los Angeles, California at the Nokia Theatre. The categories and nominees this year are QUITE interesting to say the least. Who would have ever thought we would see the day when a gospel group called Mary Mary would be in the running for a Best Group Awardagainst a Jay Z and Kanye West! I think we can say the gospel is finally making some noise!
We have been confound to just the gospel category in most award shows which may only give us ONE category, but to see we are impacting the industry obviously from the masses to the point they are having to count us as relevant is major progress! I’m not saying we are where we need to be… I’m just saying we are not where we used to be!
