Today marks the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. We remember those who lost their lives as well as those who lost loved ones at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in D.C. and in the field in Shanksville, Pa.

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama laid a white floral wreath on a metal stand at the Pentagon, above a concrete slab that said “Sept. 11, 2001 – 937 am.” A moment of silence began at precisely 9:37 a.m., in which President Obama stood with his arms folded and head bowed as taps played; and then raised his hand to his heart as taps concluded.
