Future suitors of Sasha and Malia Obama, watch out: The president may just deploy the Secret Service on you.
President Barack Obama showed his sense of humor Monday when a taboo subject regarding his daughters came up during his first interview in a series with eight local reporters from around the country.
While an assistant put on his microphone before the actual interview, the president revealed that his daughter, Malia, is graduating from the eighth grade. In response, a local reporter from WDBJ-TV in Roanoke, Va., brought up a touchy subject that instills dread in many fathers as their girls grow up: “Soon the boys will come.”
“Oh, well that’s why we have Secret Service,” Obama said with a big grin as he fidgeted with his cufflinks. The reporter laughed in response.
“She’s getting older,” Obama said. “It makes me tear up just thinking about it.”
It wasn’t the only comical moment in his string of interviews with local reporters.
In an interview with reporter Tom Wills from WJXT in Jacksonville, Fla., the president was asked, “We’ve heard you sing, we’ve seen you do stand up at the correspondents dinner, I was just wondering if you’d given any thought to being on ‘American Idol’ or ‘America’s Got Talent?’”
“Let me tell you, my wife and my daughters find me embarrassing enough when I start performing,” he joked in response. “They certainly don’t want a large national audience seeing me in that situation. I’m going to try to keep my singing to the shower most of the time.”
