Detroit teachers are angry and protesting the fact the school district will reportedly run out of money and teachers will not be paid the salaries they have earned after June 30th. This disruption in salary payments affects teachers who are on a 12-month salary plan.

A total of 94 schools were shut down Monday as teachers protested the news that they would not receive pay. The district has about 46,000 students in 97 schools.

Steven Rhodes, an emergency manager, shared that if lawmakers don’t pass legislation to help tackle the school district’s debt in the near future, they won’t be able to make payroll.
