I am happy to say that I recently self-published my first book, The Chloe Chronicles: Life lessons I learned from my cocker spaniel. When I tell people the title, their usual reaction is, “HUH? What?” But once I explain the premise, they get it.  So today, I would like to share with you my Chloe Chronicles experience.

Have you ever come to a point at the middle, end or even the beginning of your day where you realize that you are just sick and tired of YOURSELF? If you were honest, you would say that you get on your own nerves.  And your frustration usually stems from you getting in your own way. Some days, it feels like you are on a never ending merry-go-around that won’t stop. Sometimes, you don’t realize that you can stop and other times you don’t know how to stop. And then one day, you come to the end of yourself and you scream, ENOUGH! That is the day you decide to make the necessary adjustments, changes, or WHATEVER to get you out of this place of self defeat.

Well that is exactly what happened to me. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired when I started a journey of self discovery. At the time, I didn’t realize that I was on this particular journey because as far as I was concerned, outside of my internal frustration, I was doing pretty good in life. My life wasn’t perfect but it was manageable. Then one day, a 25- pound mini me in the form of a cocker spaniel named Chloe, entered my life. She turned out to be a spotlight into my soul, a light that I did not want turned on me.  For some parents, their children are their spotlight. For me, it was Chloe.  My loveable pooch served as a conscientious mirror reflecting my faults. In some way, shape or form, Chloe tapped into my personality and became my four legged alter ego. Her mannerism, attitude, high mindedness etc. really showed me myself. Once I began noticing the similarities and the very unattractive behavior, it was time to make some life altering changes. IMMEDIATELY!

From that point on, I began to create a more balanced and better quality of life by changing my mindset, actions and most of all, my expectations of myself and others; in doing so it led  to the end of my frustration, my  confusion and most of all, my disappointments. I was able to incorporate new thought processes by challenging old mindsets and paradigms while introducing new perspectives and principles to becoming my best self.

In order to achieve this better quality of life, I begin to take an assessment of where I was in life and where I wanted to be by asking a few questions:

Am I enjoying my life?

How do I interact with people?

Do I have good relationships?

How do I embrace the challenges of life?

Am I really living the life that I desire?

As I began reshaping my thought pattern, these questions and many more came to mind. This allowed me to take a deeper introspective look at my behavior, my choices and my desires. I started making the necessary changes to reach my full potential and attain the life that I truly desired.

And you can too.

In order to become your best self, you must be true to yourself and in order to be true to yourself, you have to know yourself- Judi Mason
