VaShawn Mitchell is feeling pretty ‘Triumphant’ himself now that his song ‘Nobody Greater’ has landed him his first number one position on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Radio chart and the R&R Gospel Top 30 singles chart.
“It’s like seeing the title of my CD come to life,” Mitchell told BlackVoices.com. “This project is the manifestation of a lot prayer and hard work so I’m humbled that people are embracing the CD and being blessed by the single ‘Nobody Greater’ in such a major way!”
“Nobody Greater,” which was written by Darius Paulk, is also in the number one sales position on Amazon.com and is just shy of cracking the Top 40 at Urban Adult Contemporary radio formats as well. “Hearing ‘Nobody Greater’ played in between songs by Eric Benet and El Debarge is pretty surreal to me,” Mitchell laughed. “But it’s the kind of song that everyone can relate to, so it’s definitely needed during times like these.”
As a singer, Mitchell is best known for hits like ‘My Worship Is For Real,’ ‘No Way,’ and ‘It’s Only A Test.’ As a songwriter, he has penned hits for artists like Smokie Norful, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Bishop Paul Morton. “I really try to create timeless music that will meet you right where you are and help you get to your ‘Triumphant’ place,” he expressed.
“Triumphant” is the 34-year-old artist’s third CD, his first on EMI Gospel. When the CD bowed on Aug. 10, 2010, it debuted at number two on the Billboard Top Gospel Chart. Mitchell just completed a whirlwind promotional tour that included stops in Washington DC, Chicago, Charlotte, Detroit, Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta and Houston, as well as appearing on the Trinity Broadcast Network with Donnie McClurkin and Steve Harvey (also pictured ).
The Chicago-bred talent, who serves as Minister of Music at Higher Living Christian Church in Jonesboro, Georgia, is scheduled to perform ‘Nobody Greater’ live at the Stellar Awards in January 2011.
