16-Year Old Jaelynn Willey, a victim in the shooting at Great Mills High School was taking taken off of life support Thursday evening. She passed from her injuries.

In a press conference held Thursday evening, Jaelynn’s mother said her daughter was shot in the head and was brain dead. There is “no life left in her,” her mother said. The family made the decision to take her off life support.

Gov. Larry Hogan sent his condolences via Twitter, saying: “It is with terribly broken hearts that we learn of the tragic news regarding Jaelynn Willey. No parent should ever be faced with a decision like this. There are no words adequate to express our compassion for her loving family and the entire Great Mills community. All of Maryland grieves with them, and they will remain in our thoughts and prayers.”

Authorities believe that she was targeted by the teenage gunman after their relationship ended.

When will there be effective gun control that will keep our babies safe?
