As with a patient’s refusal to eat, oversleeping may occur due to medical issues out of the staff’s control. However, in many cases, excessive sleep is a sign of overmedication. Staff members should be observant of how residents respond to their prescribed medications, but if they fail to pick up on oversleeping, they are clearly not paying enough attention to the affected residents.
