Few signs of nursing home abuse are as concerning or outwardly obvious as broken bones or bruising for which staff members have no explanation. Several forms of mistreatment, including punching, kicking, or slapping, can cause these injuries. If staff members do offer excuses for the bruises or broken bones, they may seem implausible. For example, nursing home employees may claim that the bruised resident fell out of bed or ran into a wall, despite the injuries being improperly placed or too severe for such an explanation to make sense.
