Carmelo Anthony made good on his promise to rally up his NBA friends to help take a stand against gun violence and police brutality.

The New York Knick star along with Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul and LeBron James, opened the 2016 ESPY  Awards with a deep message, for the end of gun violence. Anthony stated, “We cannot ignore the current realities of the United States of America. The system is broken. The problem is not new. The urgency to create change is at an all-time high.”

Dwyane Wade added, “The racial profiling has to stop. The shoot to kill mentality has to stop. Not seeing the value of black and brown bodies has to stop. But also the retaliation has to stop. The endless gun violence in places like Chicago, Dallas, and not to mention Orlando, has to stop. Enough is enough.”

The 2016 NBA MVP, Lebron James, said, “Let’s use this moment as a call to action for all professional athletes to educate ourselves. To explore these issues and speak up, use our influence and renounce violence.”

The NBA stars’ message is in reference to the recent shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile by police officers.
