Church organist, 92, ready to play her 80th Easter Sunday

“To come and hear Ms. Jones play after all this time, she’s still a fireball for the Lord,” Ingrid Brundidge, a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Graymont, said today about Ella Jones.

Jones, 92, is the church organist. She played her 80th Easter service today.

“80 years, 80 years …Oh boy. It’s just spiritual, wonderful,” Jones said about the milestone.

She was just 12 when her father, a pastor, asked her to play the organ for the church. She said she has no plans of retiring.

Patricia Bowman Billups, Ella Jones’ daughter, has grown up listening to her mother play in the church.
