A warm-hearted child is showing us that all it takes is compassion and a little creativity to make someone’s Christmas brighter

Around Christmas time, many of us donate to toy drives to help those in need, but an 8-year-old Chicago girl is outshining us all.

Josilyn Martin-Richardson hosted her own Barbie toy drive to collect dolls for girls whose families can’t afford to buy them.

According to Rolling Out, Josilyn was inspired to host the charitable event after playing with a young girl in a local park who did not own a Barbie doll.

“Josilyn believes that every little girl should have a Barbie doll and she asked her mom if she could do a brunch to collect the dolls for little girls in need,” reports journalist Eddy Lamarre.

With the help of her parents Kelli Martin and John Richardson, Josilyn invited guests to the Velvet Lounge in Chicago where, in one night, she was able to collect 600 dolls in total—more than half of her goal of 1,000.
