Now here’s an example of God’s Love at work! Pastor Benny Holmes of The Church of New Beginnings in Baytown, Texas was asleep in the church building early one morning when he heard someone breaking in. Taking a look around, he encountered Lee Marvin Blue carrying two of the church’s laptops and ordered him to stop. “I commanded him to stop twice, and he didn’t,” Pastor Holmes explained. “So, out of fear for my life, I did what I had to do.”
Pastor Holmes fired his weapon, hitting the intruder in the shoulder. He then called the police. While waiting for the authorities to arrive, the pastor, true to his calling, began to pray share the Word with the young man. According to Pastor Holmes,“I led him through the sinner’s prayer while he was lying on the floor. He repeated the sinner’s prayer after me.”
Baytown has been plagued lately with a number of church break-ins and surveillance video shows the would-be burglar, Lee Marvin Blue, forcing his way into a side door of the church. Blue has a criminal history going back 10 years, mostly burglaries and car break-ins. He was charged with breaking into New Beginnings Church, and is recovering in the hospital of his non-life-threatening wound. The Pastor’s ex-wife, Pat Holmes said,“We’re going to be praying for the victim but at the same time we’re thankful that it wasn’t the pastor. He loves the Lord. A man of God cares for his sheep and certainly protects the property.”
Pastor Holmes had earlier helped police catch a thief who was stealing package deliveries from peoples’ homes by setting up a camcorder in front of his home. He was able to record video of a young woman stealing a UPS delivery from a neighbor. That thief was also captured by police. It’s interesting that his church is named “New Beginnings.” Maybe these two petty thieves will be able to make their own “new beginnings” through the involvement of Pastor Benny Homes, who was not charged in the case. Good work, Pastor!
