EXPECT THE EXTRAORDINARY

Mark 1:14-20

Mark 1:17 “Come follow me, Jesus said and I will make you fishers of men”

IT WAS A DAY LIKE ANY OTHER.  It’s likely the four men kissed their families goodbye and went down to the shore, just as they did every day.  They probably told jokes, talked about their hopes and dreams, and bragged about how many fish they’d catch.  This was the life they knew, the life they thought they were destined to live.  Being fisherman was more than what they did; it was who they were.

Then something extraordinary happened.  Jesus came on the scene.

When the divine intersects with the ordinary, everything changes.  An ordinary man who catches fish becomes a disciple who fishes for people.  A mother whose daily life consists of changing diapers and folding laundry becomes a shepherdess of young lives.  A smart businesswoman becomes a spiritual leader.  A teacher becomes a mentor.  A friend becomes and intercessor.  A student becomes a missionary.  A tongue-tied wallflower blossoms into a gifted speaker.  When Jesus enters the scene, we can expect the extraordinary

When Jesus calls us to follow him, he is looking for people who are willing to let go of the ordinary and look for the extraordinary.
