There is a “Blackout” on the campus of UCLA and black male students are bringing it to the light. With more NCAA Championships than black male freshman, what’s a young, gifted, black male to do in order to get an education at California’s elite institution of higher learning? UCLA black male students decided to take roll and decided there is a need for a few more black men. These brothers’ are taking a stand on campus saying they want to see more students that look like them enrolled before the application deadline expires. The state of California voted down affirmative action in 1996 which caused black student enrollment to decrease severely. The bad news, California did pass Proposition 209 which banned state schools from considering race, gender, ethnicity or national origins in their admissions processes.
