According to a recent Philadelphia police press conference, the six-year veteran police officer of the 25th district, that was shot in the abdomen shortly before noon today, has been identified as 41-year-old Edward Davies. Davies is in critical condition from a life-threatening bullet wound and remains at Temple University Hospital.

The shooting happened in the Hunting Park area following a police stop, which ended in a violent struggle in a local store between the suspect and several officers. The suspect, 31-year-old Eric Torres, is in custody. Torres has 12 prior arrests, with 5 of those being previous assaults on police officers. The gun that Torres had in the shooting of Officer Davies was reported stolen last year.
