Nashville, TN – As the world continues to come together to help the Haitian community in rebuilding their country as they mourn the lost of thousands of family members and friends, the Gospel community is pulling together to help the Haitian community.
The initial call came from Minister Kirk Franklin as he addressed a star studded crowd during the BMI luncheon honoring Donnie McClurkin and Andrea Crouch on Friday. His thought was to pull together Gospel artists to perform on a Haiti Relief Effort with all proceeds from the project go to Haiti.
Franklin said, “This would be like a We are the world effort and with so many artists already here in Nashville, what better time to do this and to move on this before it gets old.”
Before leaving the luncheon, Franklin had commitments from some of the biggest and brightest Gospel superstars today.
By 6p.m., Friday evening, artists were arriving to the Quad Studios in Nashville, where the recording would continue until 6am the following morning and where Franklin and his production team will remain until the song is completed.
As Franklin moves forward he has given the song a name, Song of Pain. Here’s a small portion of the song written by Franklin and what the singers were singing on Friday night;

And yes we feel your pain!
Singing some of the lead vocals on the single were Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Sapp, Smokie Norful, Marvin Winans, BeBe & CeCe Winans, Natalie Grant, Dorinda Clark Cole, J. Moss, Karen Clark Shear, KiKi Sheard and Mary Mary with all donating their time for free.
Additionally, Franklin pulled together a choir with the strong vocals of Micah Stampley, Stephen Hurd, Brian Courtney Wilson, Nicole Mullen and at least fifty other young and upcoming independent artists who took advantage of a once in a life time experience.
Giving words of encouragement to the choir was Pastor McClurkin who told them, “Ministry is more than the awards we are here for (speaking of the Stellar Awards). We are standing at the end of time. But I believe God will put this (Haiti) country back together. This is not inspiration; this is the calling God gave us. Make sure your lives are in tact. Make sure you are not ministering words you are not living or entering this thing with unclean hands. It’s not about trying to be the first ones to hit the airwaves with a song but to help change lives. There are 6.7 billion people here on this earth and we need to be prepared to make a difference at any given time.”
He had the undivided attention of everyone in the room as his words, followed someone praying over the evening.
Let’s continue to keep Haiti, the Haitian community, Kirk Franklin and his entire team uplifted in prayer as they work towards wrapping up this project and that the proceeds from Song of Pain will be large enough to make a difference.
