The title of this segment of “A New You” is very fitting when it comes to your health. If you eat healthfully and consciously, take the time to exercise, and take care of yourself mentally, the rewards can be great. On the other hand, if you eat low quality foods, lead a sedentary lifestyle and allow the stress of life to cloud you mentally, then you’ll feel those affects negatively. To sum it up, you get out what you put into your body.

Plant the seeds to reap the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Here are a few of the pros of making health a priority:

FEEL BETTER

For some, adopting a healthier lifestyle can be daunting and difficult. But in the end, the body functions on a higher level, making you feel better. Overeating and lack of exercise requires the body to work harder just to keep up. Eliminate the indigestion, stiff joints and other health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle and give your body a break.

LOOK BETTER

We’ve all seen the ‘before and after’ pictures of those who have decided to make their health a priority.  For many, those pictures are enough to encourage a lifestyle change. Go beyond getting ready for the summer. Look good for life.

LIVE LONGER

Studies show that living healthy can add years to your life. One study found that the average 65-year-old can expect an additional 12.7 years of healthy life, meaning he will live disability-free until age 77.7. Highly active 65-years-olds, however, have an additional 5.7 years of healthy life expectancy, remaining disability free until age 83.4.

LIVE BETTER

Shedding pounds and maintaining health makes getting around easier and can add zest to your life.  Physical activity brings joy instead of pain. Eating healthy brings energy instead of exhaustion. Expand your healthspan-meaning your quality of health as you age-for a better quality of life.
