President Barack Obama’s hometown of Chicago wishes to honor him in a big way. The city plans to build a new high school named after the first African-American commander-in-chief. Barack Obama College Preparatory High School is scheduled to open its doors for the 2017-2018 school year. The competitive selection institution will enroll 1,200 students the first year. Nearly 16,500 students applied for 3,200 seats this school year.
