What do you think of when you hear the phrase: Am I My Brothers Keeper?

From a Biblical Prospective, are we really our Brothers keepers? As We look at the crime rate all throughout major cities and we see some disunity among those who have and those who have not. It really raises the real question… Am I My Brothers Keeper?

The first time this phrase was used was in the Bible in the Book of Genesis Chapter 4. It’s a Life lesson on two Brothers one called Cain and the other called Able.

Here’s a Biblical Flashback to understand where the term ” AM I MY BROTHERS KEEPER ” came from.

Genesis Chapter 4: 4- 10

4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

6 And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

9 And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: AM I MY BROTHERS KEEPER?

10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.

This is a extremely Powerful dialog between GOD and Cain. GOD was asking a rhetorical question when he asked where is Able. GOD already knew what happened. How ever Cain’s response to GOD was very disrespectful. See GOD wants us to look out for one another and help one another not do be divided by jealousy and envy.

In today’s society we need to help each other and encourage one another so we can make it together and truly be successful. In recent news we hear about The President of these United States Barack Obama has launch a powerful new initiative to provide opportunities or young minorities called My Brothers Keeper.

The White House is connecting with businesses and various agencies. So far nearly $150 million dollars has been invested for the new and powerful program. The White House has pledged to invest another $200 million over the next several years. It’s also been reported the Obamas will work with this program well after they have moved on from the White House.

It’s important that we ask ourselves from time to time….. I’m I My Brothers Keeper?
