1. It releases emotion

We are all a series of pent up emotions. To get through the day, deal with difficulty and handle frustrations we hold the emotions in. Putting a lid on them. But, when it all gets too much, unable to hold back the floodgates, we burst….into tears. This natural response is the body’s way of forcing the emotions to the surface. To be released out of the system where it can do less harm. With them go the tensions and stresses gripping us that lead to heart attacks, nervous tensions and exhaustion. Which is probably why more men than women suffer from these health conditions

2. It’s a de-toxifier

Crying isn’t merely an emotion register. The tears that fall actually benefit the system on a medical level. That’s because crying lubricates the eyes which helps carry toxins that have built up out of the body in the tearful discharge. These, if left in place, would begin to undermine and weaken the immune system leading to a greater risk of infection and for potentially harmful conditions or diseases to develop.

3. It shows your human side

To plenty of us crying is embarrasing. We don’t like to do it in public, or don’t like to do it at all. But how do we respond to other people who cry? Truth is, when we see someone we know, like, and love, cry it makes us feel closer to them. We react to this human sign of vulnerability which intesifies our connection. We love them more for showing us their inner self expressed in the tears. Because we are human too! Many a love affair, relationship, partnership and life long friendship was born from human shed tears that opened up two hearts. Crying is a very human thing to do and very human expression to share. It actually makes us more loveable.

4. It frees you from the past

Tears often fall when hurt has come to call. Broken relationships, the death of someone close, big arguments and family disputes being typical. These create wounds that cut deep. Without the ability to cry we would never be able to progress beyond them. We would be forever caught up in events that caused pain that we would still be experiencing. Crying moves things on. Takes it away from where its been to where it can be. It releases the emotions as I’ve already written, but it releases us too. It frees us from the chains of bitter hurts and intensity of the past. Helping us leave behind times we would prefer to forget and begin to feel better about life again.
