Today, singer and songwriter Gabriel S. Hardeman, Jr. of Philadelphia was laid to rest. Hardeman was known for his group, the Gabriel Hardeman Delegation. Even though Hardeman led his gospel group, he and his wife Annette, also co-wrote many gospel and R & B hits. One of my favorite songs is “Rock My Soul” by The Sharon Baptist Church Choir.
Mr. Hardeman is a former Philadelphia public school teacher and coach; who recently became a preacher in Georgia. Hardeman was also the son of Rev. Gabriel S. Hardeman Sr., founder of the Hickman Temple A.M.E. Church in West Philadelphia; where the funeral was held this morning.
Gabriel S. Hardeman, Jr. passed away last Saturday at age 68 from lung disease.
