It’s three in a row for Urban Prep Academy, the only all-African-American, all-male charter high school in Chicago! For the third year in a row, every senior at Urban Prep Academy has been accepted to college! Urban Prep’s success in making college a reality for African-American children from tough, low-income neighborhoods has won national attention.
When Urban Prep CEO Tim King was asked the secret to the academy’s success, King simply replied “We devote time and energy to those students so that they understand they can do well and they can have success if they modify their behavior.”
King will announce this year’s perfect college rate at an assembly at Urban Prep’s Englewood campus Friday morning.
It feels so good to read a story that gives our children their props, especially our African-American males. When they do wrong we are quick to point it out, so let’s be intentional about praising our children when they do well too!
