Well folks, the title pretty much says it all. A Church, what we are taught to be a safehouse, a place of comfort, holiness, and peace is conducting a scheduled picket date for the funeral of Whitney Houston. With all of the weight and endless efforts to cast negativity the media has placed on the Houston family since the news of the world-reknown singer’s passing, we now have a Church bashing her name. Their standpoint, backed by their leader, Pastor Fred Phelps, is that Houston used her God given talent to “teach sin and not serve God”, said by Pastor Phelps daughter Margie on her twitter account following Houston’s passing.
The church group believes God is punishing the United States with war, death, and disease because of its acceptance of homosexuality and have been protesting high profile public and private funerals around the country.
Houston has been in the negative media limelight for the past decade battling drug and alcohol addictions, and her disorderly sometimes violent relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown.
One of the picket signs depicts Houston smoking with flames around her with the words “Whitney In Hell” around her.
The church group says , God gave Whitney Houston a beautiful singing voice and a world-wide platform, which she should have used to encourage obedience to His Word and warn the wicked that their rebellion brings destruction from the hand of God. Westboro will picket her funeral to warn the living: “except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Reading history on Pastor Phelps, the Church, founded in 1955, and its history I begin to understand why this is happening. According to the church website, they have have conducted over 47,000 “demonstrations” since June of 1991 in the very same nature of the planned protest of Houston’s funeral this Saturday.
